……….20 days to make one – ok so I know I’ve been crazy slack at blogging recently so I’m really gonna try hard and get back into it although I’d rather be out walking the city listening to tunes. I’ve been reading this book for the past couple of days – Wanderlust: The History of Walking – its soooo good.
First up, I heard about this Keven Federline branded search engine Search With Kevin – its powered by Yahoo and is obviously not aimed at me but I think its a really good idea. The thing I think is interesting is whether or not the people that pay for the branding (Kev’s record label) have access to the search data – imagine that, you’d be able to directly tap into the mind set of your audience – find out exactly what they were up to, or at least things that they’re into. I was chatting to someone the other day who mentioned this guy John Battelle who seems to be some kind of search guru – anyway he calls search engines “databases of intentions” which is a really good term – knowing the ‘intentions’ of your audience surely is one of the most important tools there is so by having your own ‘database’ that your customers use would just be amazing.

Here are a couple of interesting articles from earlier in the year about how Google is maybe planning on moving into the virtual world territory a la Second Life but using Google Earth – articles from Tech Crunch and Google Earth Blog – I don’t know about Google Earth becoming a virtual social type thingy  – the great thing about Second Life is that it only exists virtually – who knows, watch this space.

I’m Back!

March 19, 2007 at 10:34 pm (Gerard McMann)

So I’ve been on tour for the past couple of weeks with a bunch of bands, The Noisettes, GoodBooks, Foals, Fear of Flying, Kid Harpoon and Assembly Now – I’m completely exhausted but it was amazing. The other good thing is that maybe I’ll have some time to get the blog back to where it should be. This week I’ll hopefully be blogging about the bands and maybe getting some mixtapes from the DJs we had on the tour – for now here’s my favorite tune of the moment.

Hey kids – shit has been mad hectic of late – the tour I’ve been working on starts on Wednesday and basically I’ve been working really hard and finding it difficult to turn my laptop on when I get home. My poor eyes and brain can’t take it – anyway here’s a couple of treats. (oh  and this photo is a sign on one of the cupboards in my office)

Don’t know if I mentioned how surpised I was by the music that gets played in my office – well I was surprised – I don’t want to mention too much but let it be known that I didn’t really know this song before I started my job and now its one of my faves.

Toto – Africa

Don’t know where I first heard about George Pringle, it may have been Slutty Fringe who is also a fan. The thing I love most about her is the way that she keeps her posh accent at a time when its so fashionable to accentuate your Laarndaaan accent. Production could use some work but hey its a myspace demo – the lyrics are great.

George Pringle – Kill Her If You Can Loverboy

And finally I got this tune from Discobelle the other week  and its seriously been destroying me and also the office (I never said we ONLY listened to Toto) – the synths are so good and work so well – its like soft southern crunk meets ‘Meet Me At the Love Parade’. Wes Fif is sooo good. Best Lyric – ‘Go to school, get a book, be a lawyer.’

Wes Fif – Haters Everywhere
