Not The Type Of Jumper That Makes You Itches
So there’s a little story to these tunes. Age 13 I found myself at boarding school having been kicked out of a couple of places – the school was super nice – a place for kids who were dyslexic and who’s parents were in the Forces – then there was us – the bad kids – the round pegs – anyway – it was back in the time when rave mixtapes would be passed around (92) and beastie boys tapes weren’t for the masses. I used to get bullied by a kid called Andrew who was super into Sultans Of Ping – he used to dress in all krusty type garb and tell everyone he was an anarchist. Funny – I think it was quite a poilitical time back then (or maybe people liked to pretend) – anyway here’s a tune from back then.
Sultans Of Ping – Where’s Me Jumper
So it was also the time of the traveller – one time at school a bunch of travellers camped near the school and when we all snuck out at midnight for cigarettes we could hear they’re music – we went down to they’re camp the next day and said hello to them – at the time Galaxy chocolate had an ad that said ‘Why have cotton when you could have silk’ – anyway one of the travellers said to us that they were just ‘floating on the breeze like a piece of cotton’ and Charlie responded ‘Why have cotton when you can have silk’ – we left pretty sharpish but this was the tune they played over the heath when we were smoking outside.
Emmy is pretty Great!

So I heard a podcast that featured Emmy recently and she seemed so nice that I thought I’d chuck you some MPFrees.
Emmy The Great – Atoms
Emmy The Great – Paper Trails
Oh and the podcast that I heard Emmy on (its pretty good) was called Cross The Pond.
I Got A New Job!
OK yeah so I got a new job that I start tomorrow – I don’t really want to say who its with as its only for 2 months – it could turn into a permanant job so if it does then I’ll spill the beans (e-mail me if you really wanna know) – but yeah I start tomorrow – its a magazine and I’m doing some event management for them. Thinking about magazines I just found this Chromeo tune from Vice’s site
I Have A New Hobby!
Yeah so I’ve been thinking and loving about this hobby for a while but yeah its photos of ‘no photo’ signs. I was thinking today about extending it to signs in galleries that tell you to do stuff or maybe even just signs everywhere that tell you not to do stuff like no smoking or no skating etc but I’m a keep it to no photo.
Here’s one from the Japan Centre…

And then another from the National Gallery……

Sunday Gallery Walks
So today I took my ass to The Serpentine, The Science Musuem, The Natural History Musuem, The V&A and The National Gallery. Daaaayyyyyums thats a lot of art. I bumped into Will Self again at the Natural History Museum – I think we could be friends without the heroin – if I see him again I’m gonna try and engage him in literary / second life chat.

This thing was cool but I couldn’t work out who it was by, it was in the V&A, then I went upstairs to see some old school stuff and saw this…….

Its a stained glass thing of Samuel Peyps – I wanted to take a photo of this amazing book of his that had this amazing illustrations but it was behind glass. I watched a film about The Great Exhibition of 1851 – shit looked so cool. So here’s a little tune for y’all – King Heroin by James Brown – first heard this on a Madlib Stones Throw podcast – I’ll dedicate this to Will Self and Mr Dynamite hisself JB.
Sunday Sonic Youth Tee
So today I wore my super LTD Sonic Youth tee – only 500 made for the release of the Bsides and rarities album ‘The Destroyer Room’ – hows about that then!

If I had some money………
I’d buy these hats….
and these tops…….
and these sneaks……..

But I don’t have any money so I’ll just sit on the internet torturing myself.
Hmmmmm Coachella
So today is my Kozyndan Coachella Tee – the line up has been released for this years festival and so has the line up for SXSW – I really really really really really really want to go to both – anyone fancy paying for me to go and see bands in the sunshine?
The Rub
Today its The Rub tee – like I said, you can’t go wrong with gold print – seeing as its monday I should have a Rub mixtape – maybe laters.
Weekend Treat
Ok so I’m about to head out into the weekend but before I do here’s a little treat. Its a remix of Hot Club De Paris by Ben Bones and Jamie T – its possible this is an exxxclusive so get em while they’re hot kids. Soon to be available on the mighty mighty Moshi Moshi
Hot Club De Paris – Shipwreck (Ben Bones & Jamie T Remix)
Don’t forget Hot Club are playing the Scala next on Wednesday – be there.
Polka
Wow – mega morning of networking – too many lovely interesting people – sitting here at the ICA on the verge of a coffee overdose – I saw the AF1 pola dots the other day and thought they looked pretty dope – don’t know about the Air Stabs – maybe – they’re pretty Ragga which I think is a good thing.
WOW

Wow – I’m up and its 7.50 AM and I’m about to leave the house!
T-shirt is Surface To Air and I think it is my official favorite tee.
Up Down Up Down
So today I went with some Fred Perry, white on black, you can’t really go wrong with something like that.
So I had my first day at the ICA today – I’m doing some consultancy helping program the spring summer music – well actually I’m called the intern but my friend is the Director of music there so I’d normally charge but they can’t afford it and I need outta the house at the moment anyway – ho hum – so 27 and an intern giving my services away for free. This is also the day that my job agency called to say that the data entry job I had lined up for the next couple of weeks have gone with someone else – they read my CV and thought I might get too bored – how considerate of them – whilst I appreciate their thoughtfulness I can’t say that my bank account feels the same way! Seriously how is that only when you’re unemployed do people find you ‘over qualified’ – no one ever thought I was over qualified when I actually had a job – you’re working to a really tight deadline and someone comes up and says oh can you make sure to book that courier blah blah ‘oh sorry I forgot you’re over qualified!!!!’ Reminds me of my favorite ever office satire thingy ever. My Filing Technique is Unstoppable by David Rees
Things may look up tomorrow…………………….. anyway heres a few tunes
India Arie – I Am Ready To Love
Basement Jaxx – Romeo (acoustic)
Picking On Kids

So today I’m wearing one of my favorite tees – Kemado Records – see I don’t know why more record labels / bands don’t make tees that are actually nicely designed – more people would wear them and thats more promotion – Kemado have a new band called Vietnam from Brooklyn – check out some free tunes from a session they did for Daytrotter. Never seen this site before but it looks full of goodness.
In other news the RIAA seems to be really pissed at the moment – they’re taking down some 16 year old kids here and DJ Drama got seriously fucked here (SWAT teams and the FBI!!!!). I find it really hard to read about this especially whilst I’m reading probably the most sensible and insightful look at the future of the music industry The Future Of Music. Wasn’t there some folk tale about a kid in Amsterdam who saved the city from flooding by sticking his finger in the hole in the dam – imagine if the authorities told him he didn’t have a licence to do it or they told him off for playing truant – seriously these guys are promoting your music FOR FREE (well Drama was obviously making some scratch – I think that was a Porsche being towed away) – but picking on 16 year old kids – plain wrong.
Fun With Drawing aka the Spray My Name post
I don’t know how most people blog but me, I just hang around until an idea gets in my head and then I either post (if I’m at home) or meditate on the post until I get home (which often means the theme of the post has completely changed). Anyway I was just sitting there playing on Linked In when I decided to make a tribute to one of my favorite artists around Ian Stevenson. He is the creator of Shut Up man – you seriously need to get youself some of the postcards.
Then I remembered that I actually got an old friend of mine to make a cover sheet to send with my CV – a kind of ‘hey I’m really cool and know cool people so how’s that for a cover letter’ from back in the day. At the bottom it says ‘all he ever wanted to do was help sell records..’ At the time Daisy was working on her ‘He Said She Said’ book (which is amazing and she has since published a bunch of books and worked for Top Shop and other stuff.
I think I started thinking about all of this tonight as I was reading about some Banksy do it yourself, download the PDF and print it off at work thing. One of my favorite Banksy’s is the Golf Sale print.
Once upon a time I had a club night in Bristol and we made stencils of the log. One night my friend and I, after a particularly drunken night DJing, decided it would be a good idea to grab a bottle of Vodka and spray the logo about. Oh the japes we had that night however after a while the stencil got soggy and we had to freestyle – this unfortunately ended in us writing another friends name (first name and surname) in huge letters on a local wall. He ended up getting a bunch of hassle from some locals in the pub who thought he’d done it – anyway it all blew over and became an in joke amongst our friends – we even started changing the words for the Destiny’s Child song to ’spray my name spray my name’ – whenever we try and diss each other its always
‘well I’m gonna stencil your name AND phone number AND e-mail on the front door of Weiden and Kennedy’
‘well I’m gonna find the Creative Director of so and so and stencil your CV onto the bonnet of his car…with paint’
Oh how we laughed – anyway it always kept us full of stupid ideas for trying to advertise ourselves to potential employers. I was thinking recently that maybe I could use the last of my funds to hire a bunch of dudes with sandwich boards and golf sale signs to hang around Soho (and Noho) and maybe Shoreditch. The signs could be something like employ this man and they would give out thousands of my CVs – anyway silly idea … or is it – anyway I’m not spending the cash to find out – maybe I’d get on the news, maybe I should project my CV onto the houses of Parliament – ok we’re getting silly again now.
Anyway I’ve been reading this blog today Confessions Of A Wannabe Ad Man, I met will at a Breakfast Club a while back and he knew everything about planning and advertising. Check out the second and third posts about his interview – seriously – do I have to know that much about brands? Which ones do you choose? Do you study brands instead of reading books? Listening to music? Going to gigs? Hmmmmmmmm
